Arulneri Logo
The logo of the Arulneri Thirukkoottam consists of three parts. They are themantra Om, thegopuram and the sentenceen kadan paNi seythu kidapathae (My duty is to serve).
Themantra OM is the path to salvation, a symbol for meditation, a great teaching. and the end of all philosophies. It symbolizes the Almighty worshipped by Siva Devotees. Thismantra is traditionally taught by a guru to his pupil and represents Siva, the original guru who taught it to enable the souls to attain salvation. It is also sound (naatham) which is Formless. (aruvam).
Gopuram: In the temples of Siva, the sanctum sanctorum houses a lingam. This is His formless – form (aru–uruvam). The vimaana above it as well as the gopuram above the main entrance are revered as sthoola-lingam. Therefore, worshipping a gopuram even from a distance brings “millions of punniyam”.
The sentence, “my duty is to serve” is from a verse by Appar Swamikal whose life was an example of selfless service in the temples of Siva. It brings to mind the devotees of Siva (Sangamam) who according to Saiva philosophy are to be revered as Siva Himself (Uruvam).
Hence, the combination of these three symbolizes the worship of: –
- The three states ofaruvam,aru-uruvam andurvam which He has taken for our benefit.
- Guru –linga –sangamam that is an important tenet of Saiva Siddhanta philosophy.
